Martin Grasic Wins Keurig BC Cup

Martin Grasic Makes National Ski Team!

Martin Grasic Wins Keurig BC CupWindermere Valley Ski Club is so proud to offer CONGRATULATIONS! to Martin Grasic for making the National Ski Team!

After his great results last winter Martin Grasic was selected to Alpine Canada’s National Development Team and became WVSC’s newest National Team member.

Unlike most European National Teams the Canadian Ski Team athletes are required to contribute to their training and racing expenses. These contributions are very substantial especially at the Development Team levels.

Martin has launched his online fundraising campaign which gives us all the opportunity to support him in his lifelong passionate pursuit of becoming the best ski racer in the world.

Please, check out his story on his site and give him your support if you can:

Windermere Valley Ski Club couldn’t be more pleased for Martin and his family!

Windermere Valley Ski Club - Linda Putnam 2014

Linda Putnam ’14, Panorama Resort!

It was another great year for our kids at the annual Linda Putnam hosted impeccably by Team Panorama.

Our four boys, Emmett and Stirling McDonald, Ross Haworth and Gus Connery Boyer, joined Team Panorama and several other teams from Fernie, Lake Louise, Jasper and Banff.

The event was wonderfully managed, with two courses (GS and Kombi), and each child was provided 4 starts on each to ensure that they were able to definitively achieve best times.  Our boys held their own amid fields of tremendous young talent.  We are so very proud of their performances!

With over two hundred children and the hard work of so many dedicated volunteers, it was, without a doubt, another great success!

Congratulations Emmett, Stirling, Ross and Gus!

Tyra Collumbin, Kimberley super-G PHOTO CREDIT: Derek TrusslerWow!  The 2014 season is in full swing and the Kootenay FIS Team has been traveling all over Canada in the last month.

Gina, Rebecca and Steven had some great speed results in the NOR AM’s out east as well as Tyra represented us well at U18 Nationals as part of the BC Team.

We just finished a great speed camp at Kimberly followed by a Down hill race, a Super G and a Night slalom.

Highlight would be Rebecca’s second place finish in Downhill and Steven Fry on top of the podium as the DH winner!

The older kids are now competing at the NOR AM Finals at Nakiska and COP!

Annual General Meeting

Windermere Valley Ski Club- U16 ProvincialsThank you to everyone who helped out and/or participated in the recent Ski Swap!  We had a very successful ski swap on Thanksgiving Saturday.
In particular, I’d like to thank the two parents who volunteered and shared in the fun of a great swap.
The WVSC is holding its AGM this Thursday at 6:00 pm in Windermere at the Hoffos residence.
I would like to ask the parents of our Entry Level programs to come and take a more active role in our ski club. You make up the vast majority of our club members and you have the golden opportunity to steer the club in a direction you see most suitable for your kids and their skiing development.
For the past two years Jenny and I have run a two person show, and we’ve been trying our best to keep improving our programs.  With more input, from more of you, we can do so much better.
Please, if you’re around, do come and attend our meeting.  If you’re away you can also give us a call or email to offer your feedback and ideas.
Looking forward to seeing you!
