Catching Up: Congratulations Martin!

Catching up on news!

Windermere Valley Ski Club is very proud of Martin Grasic U18 2013 Canadian Champion.

A great accomplishment by this determined skier.  Way to go Martin!

Martin skied for many years with WVSC and for the last two years, Martin has been representing BC skiing with the BC Team. Martin’s parents Katarina and Dusan support Martin and are active members of WVSC .

BC Team’s Martin Grasic is Men’s U18 Overall Champ at Ontario U18 Nationals

Congratulations to Invermere’s Martin Grasic (BC Ski Team, Windermere Valley Ski Club), the 2013 U18 Overall Canadian Champion!

Martin Grasic (BC Ski Team/Windermere Valley Ski Team) – “I was very happy to win the overall at the U18 nationals in Collingwood this week. It’s the first time I have won an award that requires that level of consistency, so I think it was a big step forward for me. It was also a nice way to end the week after struggling the last two days in the GS. This result, along with Team BC finishing second in the provincial standings, goes to show what a great team we had at the event, both coaches and athletes.”

U16 Provincials

March saw the U16 Povincials at Red Mountain.  Our skiers made a great showing!

Courtney Hoffos ended up third in two of the races, one GS and one Slalom.  Unfortunately, she did not complete two races.

She straddled one of the last gates in a slalom run, disqualifying her and fell in a GS run.  The athletes need to complete two runs for a race.  She has though, had a great season and for BC Overall, she was awarded third place.

Finley Spiegl also skied well, and we have seen tremendous improvement in her skiing.  Finley’s skied solidly with her best result being 19th in GS; her other results were 25th in GS and 27th in Slalom.  She ranked 32nd overall in BC.

The completion is tough, and these racers try very hard!

Helen Bavin Invitational 2013

The Annual Helen Bavin Invitational was another great success!

Fun and a ton of sunshine were enjoyed by all as we were hosted by Chris Veen and his Team Fairmont Racers at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort Family Ski Area once again.

While Team Fairmont came out on top there was plenty of fun to be had by all.

We look forward to participating again next year!

Please be sure to find photos of the racing available for viewing and easy download HERE.

Kootenay Freestyle Classic: WVSC Makes the Podium!

It was a beautiful weekend for the Kootenay Freestyle Classic last weekend and the kids did great!

A big congratulations to the 5 contenders, Stirling, Emmett, Gus, Samuel and Cole!

The moguls course was steep and long- I thought it ranked up there with an Olympic standard slope and the very hard snow conditions made it extra challenging for everybody.

Our kids performed extremely well and just mastering the course was a successful accomplishment in itself.

Well done everybody!

Special congratulations go to our two podium winners: Cole with his 2nd place podium in the slope style event on Saturday, and Emmett with his gold medal win in Sunday’s mogul competition.KootenayClassic02- Panorama Resort

First Lusti Cup of 2013!

Windermere Valley Ski Club- Lusti Cup #1Great fist Lusti Cup of the season!

The primary purpose of the Lusti Cup is the hot chocolate!

We want to give all kids a fun time in the dual slalom where they ski with one of their buddies or siblings in the courses. We keep track of the times for the few parents who are interested, but we put no importance on the time or on who’s faster down the course. Our program focuses on ski development for all ages and we use exercise courses to enhance their technique and their balance, and put as much importance on skiing the whole mountain and giving everybody a wonderful ski experience.

All in all, it was a fantastic afternoon where everybody got a little race experience, but most importantly, enjoyed themselves!
